In all my walking and talking with voters in Senate District 43, I have run into three categories of people:
those who love President Trump
those who respect him as president (i.e. they’re not in love with him, but they know he's done a lot of good, despite constant attacks from the left)
and those who absolutely hate President Trump and and Republican by association
Those who fall into the last category will not listen to any positive remarks about our President. These same people lump all Republicans with the President and refuse to listen to what Republicans have to say.
I actually made a mistake in the last presidential election: I didn’t vote for Trump. I voted for Ohio Governor John Kasich, the Libertarian candidate instead. While I’m still not in love with his tweets, President Trump has been my president since November 2016! More importantly, he quickly earned my respect through the policies he has pushed and the actions he has taken as our president! Just a few of those great efforts are below:
President Trump championed the First Step Act (FSA) promoting criminal justice reform.
Despite years of effort by proponents of the bill, it was President Trump who finally got this done for America and for the prisoners in the justice system. Those who benefit the most are minorities, who are disproportionately represented in our prisons. The FSA reduces repeat offenders, brings prisoners closer to their homes, and provides for fairer sentencing, among other reforms. (Source: https://www.bop.gov/inmates/fsa/).
President Trump doesn’t get all the credit for our economy (the most credit goes to small business owners and workers), but he does deserve some.
4 million new jobs have been created since the election, and more than 3.5 million since Trump took office.
Unemployment claims at 50 year low
Black, Hispanic, and Asian-American unemployment rates have all recently reached record lows.
Women’s unemployment recently at lowest rate in nearly 65 years.
Other actions are absolutely a result of President Trump’s efforts:
Nominated and confirmed Justice Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. [This is, in part, why he was elected – to ensure our Supreme Court supports our Constitution and does not legislate from the bench!]
Provided more than $5.5 trillion in gross tax cuts, nearly 60 percent of which will go to families.
9 in 10 American workers are expected see an increase in their paychecks thanks to the tax cuts, according to the Treasury Department.
Ernst & Young found 89 percent of companies planned to increase worker compensation thanks to the Trump tax cuts.
HHS formed a new division over protecting the rights of conscience and religious freedom.
Created an inter agency task force working around the clock to prosecute traffickers, protect victims, and prevent human trafficking.
Worked to protect American communities from the threat posed by the vile MS-13 gang [over 1,000 arrests and counting!].
[With President Trump’s direction] ICE rescued or identified over 500 human trafficking victims and over 900 child exploitation victims in 2017 alone.
All the above list items are quoted from the Washington Examiner.
My recommendation to fellow Republicans, especially politicians like myself: don't be afraid what voters think about President Trump. Show your support for our President and don't worry about the votes. Haters are going to hate! You do you and you'll earn the respect you deserve for it!
